Valentine's Day 2.0 - gift ideas for men & women
· Updated: · 4 min read
Valentine’s Day is coming up on 14 February – but don’t panic: with these tips, finding the perfect gift for him or her will be a breeze! We’ve put together a selection of unique activities and creative gifts that are sure to be remembered.
Forging your own knife
They say that men are easy to impress – but they too appreciate creative gifts. And when ingenuity is combined with traditional craftsmanship, so much the better. In a hands-on course, such as those run by the Schmiedejungs in Hamburg-Bramfeld, participants can get stuck in themselves and experience just how much strength is required to turn a piece of iron into a practical object like a knife. Using a hammer and anvil, the heated metal is shaped just as it was centuries ago – and thanks to the guidance of experienced blacksmiths, no prior knowledge is necessary.
A journey of discovery through the world of craft beer
How about a journey through the history of craft beer? You can book brewery tours with young hop, malt and barley enthusiasts across Germany. At Landgang, for example, you can spend three hours on the brewery grounds in Bahrenfeld learning about the big and small stories behind beer and the ins and outs of brewing. Too theoretical? At the five-and-a-half-hour brewing course at Wildwuchs Brauwerk in Wilhelmsburg, you’ll carry out the entire brewing process on a mobile brewing system, from preparing the wort to the finished brew. Combined with a tasting of six distinctive beer styles, lunch and a brewery tour, this experience leaves nothing to be desired.

Slow down in a classic car
Classic cars exude style: the sonorous purr of the engines sets many a man’s heart racing, and not just on Valentine’s Day. A city tour or a trip along the picturesque roads of the country at the wheel of a rolling treasure creates memories to last a lifetime. For classic car enthusiasts, there is a wide selection available online: Whether it’s a bright red 1960s Ford Mustang, a discreetly stylish Mercedes 190 or the 1951 Jaguar MK VII saloon – every car evokes memories and has its own unique story. Another plus: unlike modern cars, the cruising speed is limited – so a chance to slow down is guaranteed on this trip!

More than just a stopgap – the gift voucher
Time is running out and there’s no Valentine’s Day gift in sight? We offer vouchers in three price categories – ‘Frank Sinatra’ (€42), ‘Sammy Davis Jr.’ (€68) and ‘Dean Martin’ (€120) – at our salons on Ballindamm and in HafenCity, as well as in our online shop. “Our vouchers are a practical Valentine’s Day gift for women who want to treat their loved ones,” explains master barber Anthony.
Cast off for a moonlit sail
What could be more romantic than a sailing trip on the Elbe whilst the full moon shines from a starry sky? That’s right, nothing. On this four- to five-hour trip in a small group with your own skipper, you’ll not only have plenty of time to take in the night lights from a different perspective, but you’ll also learn about sailing, navigation and the basics of meteorology. Anyone who’s always wanted to be a captain has the chance to take the helm of the sailing yacht.
Giving perfume as a gift – but with a creative twist
Perfume again for Valentine’s Day? Better not to fall back on the usual routine and approach the whole thing with a touch more creativity: at perfume workshops held in many cities, you’ll spend four hours learning how scents influence our lives and how fine fragrances are made, before everyone tries their hand at creating their own personal blend to take home in a bottle. 45 professional essences are available to sample and combine, offering the perfect blend for every taste.
