120 Years of Barbering on Davidstrasse

Hair has been cut at Davidstrasse 23 on St. Pauli since 1906. That is 120 years. It is the oldest gentlemen's barbershop in Hamburg at this location, and it has been part of the Kiez for more than a century.
A place that grew over generations
Over the generations, regulars, Hamburg characters and famous visitors have sat here. Even the Beatles are part of the salon's history.
Anthony Stölting, hairstylist and owner of Eric:Barbier since 2016, sees it the same way:
"Places like this cannot be planned or created artificially. They grow over generations. That is exactly what we want to respect, while opening a new chapter at the same time."
How Davidstrasse carried on
In the summer of 2026 the previous salon on Davidstrasse closed. At first it was unclear what would happen to the traditional location. For Anthony Stölting it was quickly clear: scissors, comb and razor should continue to define this place.
"It would have been incredibly sad if, after 120 years, the story of Hamburg's oldest gentlemen's barber at this very location had come to an end right now."
Eric:Barbier Davidstraße opens here on 8 October 2026.
A return to our own roots
Davidstrasse has a very personal meaning for Eric:Barbier. Eric Petersen, founder and namesake of Eric:Barbier, came to Hamburg from North Frisia and then worked in this salon himself. The new location is therefore also a return to the brand's own roots.
"Eric:Barbier began a part of its Hamburg story here. Now we are, in a way, returning to our roots. To me it is a nice circle that closes – and at the same time an exciting new challenge."
What Eric:Barbier carries on here
Under the name Eric:Barbier Davidstraße, the location continues as a classic gentlemen's barbershop. The concept combines the special history of the place with the standard Eric:Barbier already stands for at its locations on Ballindamm and in the HafenCity: high-quality hairdressing, classic and modern men's haircuts, beard care, personal advice and an atmosphere in which guests feel at ease.
"We do not want to turn Davidstrasse into just any third location. We want to preserve the character of this place. It remains a genuine gentlemen's barbershop on St. Pauli – just with a new name and our signature."
Who cuts hair on Davidstrasse
The team is made up of familiar faces too. Iman and Ilayda have worked at Eric:Barbier in the HafenCity for many years and have their own regular clientele there. They form the initial team on Davidstrasse.
For Anthony Stölting the opening is therefore more than an expansion. What matters more to him than the third location in Hamburg is that what has proven itself since 1906 carries on here:
"People come in, take a seat in the barber's chair, talk – and walk out again with a good haircut. We carry the story on."
